Job Description Job Description GENERAL PURPOSE Under the administrative supervision of the Program Director or designee, this position represents the parent perspective at the management level within the agency. The role includes providing support and advocacy to families, ensuring the “family voice” at all levels of programming, and providing direct supervision to staff members. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY) The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that could be performed. Assist in the creation of a forum for educational groups/meetings. Facilitates parent advisory group. Develops a list of community self-help resources; develops child and youth self-help support groups. Involves children/youth in advisory group activities. Develops a list of natural community supports. Teaches Parenting Classes upon request. Provide transportation to parent activities and help make arrangements for childcare for parents to attend support groups, educational forums, conferences, workshops, etc. Identify parents for training and workshops. Clarifies grievance process. Develop non-traditional parenting classes (How to parent a child/youth with psychiatric disabilities) Notify the Family Coordinator of all groups and classes provided at our agency promptly. Identify openings. Attends all Sacramento County Family Advocacy meetings; Family Natural Team meetings; and Child and Family Team meetings Demonstrates a commitment to wrap-around approach when working with families; provides outreach to new families Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, in-school assistance; in-home support; mentoring; skills development; crisis intervention; troubleshooting/problem solving; parental guidance; support and education when requested. Provides prompt intervention in the event of a crisis, both to resolve the crisis and to notify, when indicated, persons and/or agencies necessary for the resolution of the crisis. Acts as liaison with and develops list of community self-help resources/supports such as housing; childcare; transportation; education; recreation and socialization; medication support. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES Education, Training, and Experience: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is through graduating with a High School diploma or GED and less than 2 years of full-time equivalent in a mental health-related field providing direct mental health services. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: California driver’s license & current vehicle insurance/registration Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old, excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport, inclusive of bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
