Job Title: Telemetry Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: ED Holds (Telemetry) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Telemetry experience, NIHSS certification, experience managing drips Description: Unit requires a telemetry registered nurse to care for patients recently released from the emergency department who are waiting for a bed. The unit has 25 beds, with a 1:4 or 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio. The expected patient population includes general medical cases and strokes. RNs are responsible for reading telemetry strips, as there are no monitor techs available. Common medications used include heparin, amiodarone, cardizem, and GI drugs. Nurses are expected to have experience titrating drips. Weekend rotations are required every other weekend, and holiday rotations will occur with permanent staff. RNs will float to inpatient-like units as needed. The dress code requires navy blue scrubs, with under shirts in navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy. Nurse aides are not available on this unit, requiring RNs to take on full patient care responsibilities. Shifts are planned four weeks in advance. Extra shifts may be available. There is no call or standby requirement. The charting system in use is Cerner. The unit mandates a specific orientation for its staff. Cancelation policy allows up to four shifts to be canceled within a 13-week assignment.
